A letter from Fire Chief Dennis M. Jenkerson
of the St. Louis Fire Department:
Hello and welcome to the new website for the Firefighters’ Weekend. Here you will find all the information you need about this year’s 28th Annual Great Fire Engine Rally, and all of the activities that make this a great four day event. First let’s save the dates! Mark your calendars THURSDAY , SEPTEMBER 8th – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th, 2011.
We always start off the Firefighters’ Weekend by remembering our brothers and sisters who have come before us, and who have made the ultimate sacrifice. On Thursday night at 8:00pm we will hold the 3rd Annual Firefighters’ Candlelight Vigil in front of Market and Tucker right across the street
from City Hall. This is a great tribute to our history
and the firefighters who gave their all.

Things only get better as the weekend continues. Friday night is our 4th Annual St. Louis and Metro Firefighters’ Ball held at the luxurious Four Seasons – St. Louis. What a night, it all starts at 5:00pm with an open bar, hand passed hors d’oeuvres, silent auction, a fantastic seated dinner, and then a live 8 piece band to dance the night away! The Ball is always open to the public, and all proceeds go to Backstoppers “the Police and Fireman’s Fund”. Click on the Ball logo for more info on ticket prices and sales locations.
Saturday it’s the event that started it all, the 28th Annual Great Fire Engine Rally! The parade will start promptly at 10:00am. This is a fun filled family event and great for kids of all ages. The parade route will be available for print on 'The Great Fire Engine Rally' page. There will be games for the kids, great food, and approximately 100 fire trucks!
On Sunday, we will have a lot going on. Starting in the morning we will have the 2nd Annual Firefighters’ Worship Service starting at 8:46am, the exact time Flight 11 crashed into World Trade Center Tower 1. We will have a time of fellowship and prayer for all 3000 people killed on 9-11-01, and some great music and inspiring words for all of us.
All morning and into the afternoon on a happier note we will have the 2nd Annual Breakfast for Burn Camp at the Lafayette Fire Company No. 1 from 8:00am – 2:00pm. All proceeds from the breakfast buffet will go to the Missouri Children’s Burn Camp.
To close the weekend out is the Official 10th Anniversary Ceremony of 9-11-01 with more information to be coming soon.
I would like to personally invite everyone to our great city for this fun four day event. If you’re a firefighter, fire buff, or a citizen who loves fire trucks, the fire service, and the people who answer the call, this is a great opportunity to come and help us celebrate the long & rich history of the fire service with this years Firefighters’ Weekend!
Respectfully,
Dennis M. Jenkerson
